Washington Point

The reason I call it that is because I had Martha Washington Geraniums in there a couple of years ago . . .

As you can see, the sunflowers I transplanted from the driveway curb are growing tall - if you remember from last year, those sons-of-buns were about 2 1/2 feet tall by the time they flowered.

Perce's sunflowers came from the same spot. I don't know how they got onto my lot - probably the wind, birds, maybe even the cat's paws. It started off with just a couple of them - I thought they were trees trying to grow and for a couple of years I just cut them away.

I'm looking forward to seeing them again this year - they tripled in quantity since last year.

I also have iris in this point - they didn't bloom that well this time - might be because I re-arranged them - dunno'. Then again, we might see them.

Other than the sunflowers and the iris, there's some kalanchoe and small bits of growth in there.

The New Table Planter

This is the one I got from my neighbour's yard sale last weekend - we replaced the green sconce and put it on the end of the picnic table (where the broken one was).

I put all my wandering jew pieces in there. I'll probably have a glut of the stuff by mid-summer.

Violet Comeback

Here's North Island's South-East Corner . . .

I've planted those purple cone flower seeds in there - the ones that Carol (Junie Girl) sent me.

I have that 'violet' plant in there (not really that sure what it is - when it gets bigger, if it ever does, I'll show it. I originally bought two of 'em . . . unfortunately, when I planted the second in Fed Ex Corner (where those hosta bits are), I broke the root . . .

I pulled it out of there about ten days ago and put it in a small pot.

Lo and Behold! The poor thing seems to be surviving.

A Hock? Not all that sure . . .

Behind the light fixture there . . . I'm beginning to wonder - is it a hollyhock? Or a piece of cucumber plant coming up?

Yellow Flowers on Retaining Wall

I don't know what these are - never noticed them before. Whatever it is, it's pretty.

---------------------------------------------------

Wild Phlox

I think I might have showed this on another photo - but this one seems to be better, so I'll show it again.

Sweet Jasmine (Maybe?)

Don't really know - it grew up over the winter in one of my geranium pots. I'm figuring on it being a slip one of the girls that used to live here gave me.

I've deliberately silhouetted it, so the shape of the leaves will show better -it did have a small yellow flower. Guess I'll know better as it grows.

----------------------------------------------------

South Island Slope Seeding

Here's how it looked last night . . . still some patches. I've already sprinkled some more seed on them a few days ago. I'll wait another week and see if it comes in - if not, I'll get in there with the hand fork and see if I can get it going.

I have to admit - it's a heck of a lot more grass than I had there at the beginning of the month.

North Island Seeding Job

This is a better shot of my work up to Friday night (I think). A bit dark - took it in the late afternoon, yesterday.

Like I said before, I'm about 1/4 of the way done - I've also raked out the rest of the island. Needs more weeding, of course. Tomorrow, if the rain doesn't chase me indoors, I'll spread some more soil and get sprinkling again.

------------------------------------------------

Day Lilies

A silhouette . . . on their way in once again. Wonder how many blooms I'll get next time - the garden across the driveway always gets them before we do . . . grrrrr!

Dahlias . . . again

Couldn't resist one more shot of these. Don't know how big this plant's going to get - maybe I should put it in a bigger pot and give it a chance.

------------------------------------------

Carpathian Bells . . .

Now I've read the tags more closely . . . campanule . . . the plant in the middle with the white flowers is the spiral bells - the other one will give blue flowers - they are called carpathian blue bells.

That middle one got kinda' flattened in the rain storms, but I suppose it will pick up.

Blue Bells . . .

These are the plants from the garden up the street - the one that got raided about 10 days ago? Where they're going to be plowing it all under. There are also some daisies, that started off as mums from there - but these bluebies are blooming now!

Messy looking right now - hopefully more stuff will pop in and that fence garden will be bursting with blooms.

------------------------------------------------

Amaryllis

We should be seeing this one soon - the bulb was slow going; I put it in there about 3 weeks ago, but now it's coming . . .

Soup Mix Pot

Looks like I lied . . . you will remember my saying 'well, this won't flower, of course - the dried peas and beans aren't fertilized . . .'.

Ha! Ha!

I'm out there chewing the rag with my neighbour tonight and what do I see coming on my soup mix growth?

Flowers!

Still edging - and sweltering! 28 celsius today!

It's 2:00 pm . . . we're having pancakes and french toast - then a nap. If the thunder storm holds off, I'll do some more edging and put some of my table plants into austrian circle - 'twould be better to have that going now, than have to step on it after I've spread soil and seed.

I've decided not to use that old plastic and rubber edging we had stashed - throwing it out. I'm just using wood. The idea is to remove it after I've finished my wonderful greening job, and have a perfect little 'edge' running around the whole island.

Besides, if I have edging that comes up over the surface, I won't be able to rake and run the mower so easily, when I finally do end up with this lush little piece of land.

Pictures later on - maybe Friday or so.

The job's 'on hold' for a coupla' days . . . I went swimming with 8 year old Rachel yesterday, then out for supper later - then a good nap!

Bones are still aching from yesterday's exercise, but I'm going out with the kids again this afternoon to swim - I like to scissor my legs and arms in a 'butterfly' motion - and a sideways moonwalk kinda' thing. Water aerobics . . .

Ohhhhhh! When I come home, it's a coupla' Tylenol for Arthritis pills, and some Ben Gay.

Thanks, Tamara ... I finished my weeding, soil spreading, seed spreading yesterday morning.

What a job!

Jeff cleaned up and watered for me afterwards.

I might wander around and take some pictures today. I like what the digital cameras do when it's dull. There's more light than you think you're getting, but you don't have to wrestle with shadows and that whiteness you get when there's too much sun glaring down.

I wasn't going to do any gardening today - slept most of the day and did some reading . . . two books - The Blood of Flowers & A Fine Balance.

But then early evening, IT WAS CALLING ME! Had to go out there and doodle around on the lot. I patched some of the bald spots on the South Island slope . . . we can't be cowboys if we don't have a good lush slope, y'know . . .

And I worked a little more on my fence garden.

Jeff just went out there and watered it down for me . . . nice man.

Maybe I'll go swimming tomorrow - maybe I won't.

Good news! Jeff informed me that one of our tenants (Don) is going to babysit the building Thursday and Friday - we're going out to Fort Erie to see my brother in the nursing home, spending the night in the Falls . . . he wants to spend whatever it costs to get a room overlooking the falls themselves.

(Not like my frugal, Jeff, but I ain't arguin' with the man!)

Bells . . .

Of all the wild flowers, these are one of my favourites. They're starting to come out now.

Celandine

You'll recall this one I posted the other day. It was identified as celandine at Garden Helpers . . . it's very pretty in full bloom.

I've taken it off the fence (our neighbour is worried about the retaining wall stuff robbing his plants of nutrients . . . keep the peace, eh?)

I've put it in here - in front of the art squares - a bit messy looking right now, but it looks like it's going to 'take'. I won't see the results this year - probably late next spring . . .

A Regular Idunnosia

This comes up every year at the side of the stick circle - I've never known what it is, but it gets bigger each year.
