I'm not liking this heat and humidity thing already! It's VERY humid with this heat and just today I went outside and felt like I couldn't breathe and it's only in the 80's today. This weekend I think I'll just hide inside. My best friend a few hours away will have highs in the upper 90's! Our average high for this time of the year is about 74-75 degrees....so this is a big jump already. Sure am glad we have our AC's in.....we could break some records this weekend. How about the rest of you on the east coast? Do you have your AC in, or do you have central air? What are your forecasted temps like?
Jun 6 Tomorrow Scattered clouds with the possibility of an isolated thunderstorm developing during the afternoon. Warm. High 89F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30%.
Jun 6 Tomorrow night Isolated thunderstorms during the evening, becoming clear overnight. Low 67F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 30%.
Jun 7 Saturday More sun than clouds. Highs in the low 90s and lows in the mid 60s.
Jun 8 Sunday Slight chance of a thunderstorm. Highs in the low 90s and lows in the upper 60s.
Jun 9 Monday A few clouds. Highs in the low 90s and lows in the upper 60s.

Not much heat here on the upper East coast...
We are still under frost warnings every night.

Thanks for the head's up, Loz! I just checked our local forecast and boy oh boy was I ever surprised! Heat is coming to the coast of Maine pretty early this year!
Thursday - High 66 Low 50 Humidity 72% Rain Showers
Friday - High 69 Low 55 Chance of Rain 50%
Saturday High 80 Low 62 Chance of Thunder Storms 40%
Sunday HIGH 88 Low 65 Clear Skies
So you see it is going to take a few days to get here, but oh man we''ll be a-boiling up here soon!
I have our a/c's in the windows. Actually, I am using them today because of the exceptionally high humidity... it is too hard on my heart and breathing.

Oooo, no fun for you either Carol! It's just too hot too early. I hope it's not a sign of things to come!
Merme, I have my AC on today too--the humidity just kills me. I'd rather have it nice and chilly than too warm. Even in the winter I like things on the cooler side.
And Tam, send me a bit of that coolness!
I guess things will be hot for Lynne too!
And down south for Jiffy.....
I could handle the heat if it weren't humid. It's the humidity that gets ya.

that is true about the heat---but we are so over our amount of rain for the year I am hoping we will be ok even if it gets hot & dry for all summer--

You'd need an electric flyswatter suit here. I was just outside planting seeds...I have too many bites to count.

Oh man, we are getting it here big time. Wow.
It was 90 today and super humid.
Calling for 95 tomorrow and more humidity.
In the 90's all the way till Monday.. and the forecast says hazy and humid.
We don't have our air conditioners in yet.. and the pool is still waiting for a new filter.

Better get them in Jennifer! And pick up that pool filter!
I had our AC on all day today. Luckily it's a huge window unit. Was here when we bought the house and it's permanently installed in the window. Cools the whole downstairs off.

that is what we had at the farm, Loz--the silly woman that lives there now, has a 2nd one in her bed room (my old living room)---if she would jsut run a high powered floor fan (like a patton) her whole downstairs would be cool as well.--but it is not my concern now---
we have central here now--but I miss the sound of the window unit and the fan--I found it very soothing.

...And down south for Jiffy.....
today around 4 pm it was 97. heat index of 110, humidity correction to 118 and the humidity was only 59% but there was a wind correction to 103.
right now, it is 76.6°F (24.8°C) with no heat index to speak of, but the humidity correction is 98.4 and with wind correction it is 84.0°F
i've had my a/c on for 2 months now, for the most part, and am hoping i don't have $400 electric bills this summer. i don't think i could stand it. i've already adjusted my thermostat warmer to keep the bills under $200 for now.
come august, will someone just shoot me?
just to explain all the corrections, everyone is familiar with heat index - basically you are baking in the sun which is why there is no heat index at night to speak of. but, because humidity prevents your body from cooling naturally using sweat evaporation, you feel hotter than if you were just baking, think sauna. that is why the humidity correction is highest temp. but, if there is any breeze, or if you can catch a breeze or get a fan, you can trick your body into thinking it is a more comfortable level than just baking or steam baking in the sun. that's your temperature lesson for the day

Jiffy you and I are experiencing the same type weather, it was in the 90's all last week and mid to high 90's this week and very dry here, one day topping at 100. High gusty winds for the last week also,, it felt like standing in an oven with forced hot air blowing on you. This has been an unusual spring here, hardly any rain,, very high temps, my flower beds this time of year is usually lush and full of blooms,, this year only 1/2 have come up and only 1/2 of them have bloomed I 've had my a/c on for 2 months now, for the most part, and am hoping i don't have $400 electric bills this summer. i don't think i could stand it. i've already adjusted my thermostat warmer to keep the bills under $200 for now. 3-400$ is the normal bill for us without the AC on, I don't think I've seen a 200$ elec bill for at least 2 years, That would be a nice bill to get,!
We've only turned on our AC last week tho it's been hot we try to put it off as late as possible ' ,we turned it on primarily because Emmy stays in the house while we're at work, and I came home one day and it was 92 degrees inside . I don't think we even turned it on last year until mid to late June sometime. Ceiling fans and floor fans are our usual in May-June until we( actually I )can't take the heat inside anymore,, Geeeeeeeez the elec bill is biting early this year, and TXU rates are going up this summer.

Gee, and I complain about the cold. We have no central air or no A/C...there's no need for it here. We might get only 3 or 4 real hot days in the summer.
Just imagine....I don't even own a pair of shorts

.......forgot to tell you. We've got a fire in the woodstove right now, trying to warm up the house.
maybe we could trade a little cold for heat?

what is a little algae, Lynne---you can always get in the shower after---or I guess you could just go straight for the shower part in the first place--
sorry about the air doing that to you.--that has got to be awful to tolerate.
and all of you, about the price---my mom's heating and cooling bill is at least $400. a month--and this wss the cost before the raise in a prices. I do not think I want to know waht it is now.
what I have never got with them is--in the winter, you have to wear a t-shirt when going there it is so warm in the house---
BUT in the summer you need to take a jacket because it is so cold in their house---strange I think---

Ah, we are all in for nice hot weather eh?
Lynne, I was tempted to jump in my pond last night! The neighbors have a pool and I really wanted to go invite myself to get in it.
It's hot already at 9:30.
