I have 2 birdbaths about 15 ft. from my patio. I have seen many beautiful and not-so-beautiful birds over the last 23 years in this house.

I was just out there a minute ago and a pretty little bird I've never seen before partook of a bath. :) It's small, roughly the size of a little finch or a small sparrow, orangey-yellow head and chest and brown wings.

Anyone know what that is? zone 8a, Warren County, Mississippi.

Try doing a Google Image Search on a male House Finch for starters. That sounds like the most likely suspect.

Unfortunately, that's not it. The head and chest of 'my' little bird is a smooth, solid yellowy-orange. The wings are a solid medium toned brown. It's almost as if the wings are on the wrong bird. :) There is no brown anywhere else on the bird.

Thanks for the effort. :)

Looks very much like it. Especially one of the pics on down the page with the bird looking up and his wings spread and also the next one down. Except the next one down has a little bit of darker color on its head.

Thanks!!! grin
