at the end of this past summer we bought 2 fruit trees -peach n plum, i think- and planted them as soon as we got them
we watered regularly and fertilized
and after about a month or so the leaves fell off and now they are just there
my hubby thinks they are dead so he dont tend to them anymore he lets mother nature do her thing with them
shortly after we put them in the ground we wrapped them with straw cause our first frost had set in well i also went to check on them a while back and noticed that the soil around them is very hard almost like clay but without the color
i was wondering if anyone could help me on this
did we kill them?
fertilize them too young??
frost get them or what??

Try breaking a small branch. If it snaps and is dry in the center that branch is dead. But I would wait until spring when things are budding and beginning to leaf out. Those are both deciduous trees and lose leaves naturally in the winter. No watering is necessary in their dormant period.

I just recieved three grape vines from a friend, I believe she bought them at BJ's. The roots are in plastic but there are leaves on the stems. When do I plant them and more importantly what do I do with them until planting. I live in zone 6 south Jersey.
