Hello, I am very new to this site & I'm still trying to figure out how to even use it. I just bought a couple of queen palms in a 20 gallon container. so they seem to be about 12-15 feet tall. (total) It had confusing planting instructions. I dug a hole about 1 1/2 times the pot size in depth and about about 12 inches round bigger than the pot. I mixed my ground dirt (which is like red clay dirt) with a top soil mixer which i had left over from laying sod on the ground. I mixed the two together & planted it just level with the dirt that it already had. I sure hope I did this right. I used some miracle grow in the water afterwards. Is miricle grow ok to use with palms ? how many feet per yesr does this tree grow ? i think i live in zone 9 or 10

Hi'ya Jodi. Welcome to TGH. Also from California. It sounds like you gave your queen palms a very nice start in their new home. Queen palms are relatively slow growing for palms although there are some much slower. I would look for about a foot a year growth. The miracle grow will not hurt them at all. There is food available formulated just for palms that you can look into.
The biggest problem with queen palms in my area is the winds. It helps to have Some good sturdy posts to stabilize them, especially when they are young and newly planted. But I've seen even larger older ones fall over in the winds. They are not as stable on their root system as our regular washingtonias (the palms lining a lot of our streets)
