Hello!

I'm new here. Found the site searching for willow information. I live in Manitoba, zone 2b so the map I was looking at says.

I took some willow branches from BC and plunked them in the ground last fall.

Are they going to take? Can I even grow them here?

that's how I started both mine but I'm in zone 7

I hope I might get a willow branch from you when I get to my new place and select a sight for one. I'm thinking I want one in my bog pond area by the picnic area. But it's just a dream so far. I'll have plenty to keep me busy for awhile.

Salix babylonica is hardy to zone 2, so it should live for you. willows usually root easily in moist soil, but in your zone the cuttings may not have had time to root. You may just have to wait and see if they rooted.

The root system of these trees will get huge and extend way beyond the drip line of the mature crown, so be sure to plant at least 100 feet from a building, sidewalk or driveway. They also drop alot of litter, so that's a consideration as well.
