I'm planting yellow bell pepper. They are now about 1 -2 feet tall and already bear many bell peppers. Overall the plants look healthy, but some bell peppers are weird looking, kinda deform. Basically it has extra piece forming between bell pepper's calyx and shoulder. I'm not sure what is causing it, should I remove the deform bell peppers from the plant?

I must be missing it in the photo. Can't see what you are talking about. JD

i've bought peppers in the store that had bits of a second pepper attached - have even cut them open to find the beginnings of another one inside. deformity or some weird twinning or a double bloom...i don't know what causes it.

i'd leave them be and see how they grow. or you could take off the little extra bit and let the other part grow - it'll probably end up being completely normal in shape.

Early blossoms tend to be doubles, it's kind of like twins. You can pick it or leave it, it's edible at that stage.

I had a tomatoe last year that grew a bit deformed...it looked like an extra tomatoe twin might be clinging on somehow. I looked it over closely and ALL of it looked just fine. We ate it! mmm...mmm How many pep's on one plant are deformed?

I'm not able to remove the extra piece because it is so attached, it seems like one weird pepper instead of 2 separate ones. I guess I'll just let it be and see how it turns out. I have a few bell pepper plants, and some will bear this weird looking pepper.

On one plant, only 1 is weird looking, the rest is normal.

once it's grown and is ripe enough to take off and you cut into it, you'll see that it's two seperate peppers. and completely edible.

yes, it is weird. no one ever said mother nature was perfect though!!
