mine did more hanging than climbing when I planted it. But I loved it all the same.

first year for cypress vine for me. I saw it at a friends house. just loved it and was given some seed! I was warned about how 'crazy' it can get. and to be careful when removing the dead vines in winter not to drop any seeds.

Hmm.. I definitely want a climber.. and just bought the Cypress seeds tonight at WalMart.. I also got some Morning Glories and some kind of night blooming flower.. also a climber. I got the MG and the night bloomer for my daughters swing set/play house set actually.. she wants it covered in stuff.. so it feels like a jungle. lol

Loz, what didn't you like about the Cyress vine? And TK, yours didn't climb?

Cricket, I have never seen it in real life, just pictures of it.. it looks so pretty.. and different.

My sister in law grew it a couple of years ago, it drove my brother crazy. The stuff grew like a weed all over the place taking over many of his specimen plants. He has just now gotten it somewhat under control. Grow it, cuz it's pretty, but keep a close eye on it.

THAT is why I don't like it! It has grown thru so many of my beds strangling my nice flowers....I wish I'd never planted it. And the flowers on it were so teeny tiny that it just didn't impress me.....mine was more feathery foliage than it was flowers...

Yeah, me too Cricket. At least it isn't a perennial here.. I guess that is one good thing.

And if the flowers are so teeny tiny, would you suggest I plant something else with it maybe?

The flower is really tiny , but if you put alot of the cypress vines together, the foilage fills in beautifully.
I have red, pink and white started for my arch way against the house.

Neat.

I had mine in a container with blacktop below it so there was no chance of it spreading lol. It did make a thick carpet of foliage with plenty of flowers on it. So although they were small the overall affect was very pleasing. Since I had it in such limited space and at a great height for pruning I didn't have any problem with it. But if it had been free to roam I can certainly understand how it might do what our other members have mentioned.

Wow Cricket, did you plant the seeds in the ground or did you start them inside and transplant? I haven't started mine yet.. I am thinking maybe I should.. but I am not sure where I will put the jiffy pellets. I bought a big thing of them, like 72 cells and haven't used even one. =(

i started some seeds inside then transplanted under the arbor. then I figured i needed more and planted a few seeds in between the plants. the seeds I put directly in the ground have caught up with the seedlings I trasnplated. I'd say that'd be your best bet. when you think it's warm enough just put the seeds right in the ground.
