I've heard this is a bing type of cherry. Can I grow these in place of the Dwarf Bing Cherry Trees. Kind of like a hedge between the other fruit trees? And is this the dark red sweet cherry that I want? Plus how long do they live. Does anyone know? And how long does it take for them to mature and bare fruit?

Here's a bush cherry, orPrunus Tomentosa, now blooming in my
backyard. It gives a nice early show of flowers, and the small red fruit soon disappears, thanks to the resident robin. No big loss, since it's mostly seed, just barely covering the pit.

Here's that bush in full bloom. Its early and showy display is worth its keep in the border. Click on the picture for a close look at its flowers:

I think I have the same type as neko. The cherries have some flavor when they're fully ripe, but they're small and don't have much fruit on the pit, as neko described. I was thinking I'd try thinning the fruit this year to see if it improves the quality.
I've read theat the Nanking type shrub cherries produce good fruit...the only ones I've seen in catalogues are expensive, but might be worth it if the fruit is actually good quality.

Thankyou so much for the information. I'll definitely look into the nanking type of shrub cherries. I do want good fruit.
