Here's the first pic of my garden this year clap: [Linked Image]
I'm currently in the process of turning my garden into a raised-bed garden.I transplanted my zukes ino the bed you see. between the seedlings,I sowed bunching onion seeds.I went through the soil in the bed removing the bits of grass, weeds, tree roots, glass, rusty nails, etc. This resulted in the fluffiest bed I've EVER made so far.My garden soil is clay;whenever it rains, the soil gets to the consistency of dough. Raised beds will definitely improve drainage.
Enjoy!

Great start. I would make sure to mix plenty of composted manure and even a little humus in it if possible and then use a natural mulch. That will keep the weeds and grass down also cool the soil then just turn it in next fall and that will help the soil. Jay

My soil has PLENTY of earthworms;they should enrich it a bit.To the left of the pic outside of the pic is my compost pile.I also mix in a bit of potting soil into the beds to improve drainage& when it decomposes, will add nutrients to the soil.

The reason for so few worms in your garden is that some pesticides kill them.

I didnt think you did.
You need a permit here in Pa to use that on the fields.
Have to go to classes to get a license.. HD has one ,not I .
Becky told me she buys her soil also.. I have to buy my soil to start my seeds.
Right now a huge bag in the seed room......Then I transplant into my earth with worms......
When it rains here, the nite crawlers are all over our roads.
Maybe you have to use aligator dung..LOL
lol

What do you need a license for?

I have worms in my compost pile but I never see them when I dig in the garden even though I use the compost from compost pile on the garden. Where do the worms go?

You need a license to kill here.... lol

I am speaking about Pesticide Licenses . The government makes us in Penna go to classes n get a permit to spray different pesticides on our crops. YOu cant buy the powerful ones at the store without. HD does this.

You need that license to buy the stuff????
Funny you dont need a license to by drugs.

Hay ,corn , oats .

I dont buy drugs.....Grape juice is my drug .. And tylenol.
No I was saying , we have to pay to put the pesticide on.

Yet a person can get drugs without a license..Just a comparison.. I take nothing at all.

Don't even like soda.
