We don't have a pond, but we have a creek that runs the whole length of our property.. and we had some major flooding when all the snow melted. So maybe he got washed in from somewhere. I have no idea.. it is just funny.. and Courtney just thought it was awesome!

hmm, I always thought clams only came from salt water....I know they only do here. We dig them out of the sand with special clam shovels.

If you would of eaten that clam, you might of been real sick. Shellfish spoils quick out of water.

Well, I have no idea.. I don't think he was a salt water critter though.. Not in Ohio..

And you might be right.. he might not have been very good if I had eaten him.. Probably a good thing my daughter wouldn't let me. I swear that child would starve to death if she had to hunt/fish for her own food. Or at least become a vegetarian.

Oh my, fresh salt water clams are the best. I grew up on shellfish and seafood. Some of my uncles are lobster, scallop and clam fishermen.

nope we had freshwater clams--for sure in the area "pond" (they would call it a lake these day)
and smaller ones in the creeks as well.

freshwater mussels and clams are really good cooked over charcoal until they "pop" then have a sliver of salted butter or margarine pushed in them, cook a bit longer. good eats.

Jiffy

Not a moment too soon......I made stuffed clams for supper last nite , and they were delicious.. I never ate a clam before.
Saw them in the dollar store. Dollar for 2 stuffed frozen clams. So I figured that is cheap , why not .
We liked them..

Now I can clam up..

Here we are allowed to dig 100 clams per day. There used to be no limit before but they were becoming scarse. Mussels can be picked by the crates....
