Don't sing in the rain: your plants will get powdery mildew and all sorts of molds that spread through rain.

I grew popcorn a few times as a kid. It was like growing any type of sweet corn. Unlike sweet corn, you let the ears ripen before harvest. There was also some special drying requirements that led to good % pop with few old maids.

hopefully the cuttings will fare well and, no, i wouldn't recommend moving the main plant if it's doing well where it is! repotting in spring does sound like a good idea though

definitely used unglazed clay pots and make sure there is a drainage hole in it!

Yes, they should fill in quite nicely. Are you trimming them square? They will actually grow a little nicer if they are broader at the base and narrower at the top. Think a flat-topped modified pyramid, here. That allows the bottom to soak up a touch
