Hi everybody!


Here is a brand new CH all polished up and waiting for you.

Rough night here. Lots of hip pain so I got up a few times. Maxi tried to help by making me a pallet on the floor & bringing me a cup of tea but ultimately I had to get extra medication. Then I tossed & turned and couldn't sleep well. At one point, I wondered why I couldn't push my wheelchair backwards with my foot like I always do? I opened my eyes & I was in bed pushing against the mattress! No, that wasn't going to be moving anywhere! At 5, I gave up trying to sleep and so here I am at 6:30. I am going to consult with a pain management specialist as my primary isn't really skillful in this regard.

Maxi selected the teen who will be receiving his "college scholarship for textbooks" this year. She is a girl from our church who always helped with the little kids & sang like a dream. Maxi is very proud of her and the awards letter created for her is adorable. I was able to go on line and find a printable image of a fancy Gold Seal for him. He usually makes one & colors it with yellow colored pencil and labels it "Gold Seal of Approval For Excellence". Her mom already knows Dana won the selection process this year & she thinks Dana will be delighted because her older sister won several years ago. The "scholarship" is usually only $50 or $60 but it is a help. Later in the school year he tries to send them pizza money if he can earn it! (business is slow in the winter months)

Well I have a drive home after all , I just got a call from my childhood best friend...he is coming down for the day to visit his father who lives in the same apartment as DD(he's her apartment supervisor). As much as I'm gonna miss the baby, I need to go home...I have been down here for most of the month.(and I'll also add, its a free trip saving me $100)

The Public health nurse is coming to visit today, it's a free service you can sign up for and she comes once a month for an in-home visit to check the baby and talk to the mom....I can honestly say that it's a nice feeling to know some of our tax dollars go to such wonderful programs.

I'm so glad you got a ride home! YAY! And yes, the savings is very nice.

We had a visiting nurse when Maxi was born. It was wonderful because I didn't know anything about babies! I was also legally blind at the time and she could check him over for small things I'd miss. I'm glad your DD is having one.... that is reassuring.


Yes, Maxi is a sweet kid. I do not know many kids at 4 and 5 who start picking up cans and bottles around town to give the money to charity and at 6 start a business to raise money for a freshman college student. That's why I have no problem with people helping him now -- even as he is still helping others.

excellent its definately cooled down here. This morning it was 11 degrees (now for all who count temp in Farenheit that would be approximately 52). But its suppose to warm up to 25 today (77). I think Fall is thinking about arriving!

I love programs and things that bring health care and welfare checks to the home of children and the elderly. I would love to see more of it available.
I have worked a lot more today than I have been able to manage the last few days. But I am about out of 'morning cool' to use up. I may get something done indoors today after I collect Teddy from school.

Good morning! I slept in a bit today but I'm now fed and have coffee ready. I have to wait at least an hour and then I'm going running. I won a new running skirt off of ebay and need to test it out. I have a feeling that it will soon be a favorite though. Merme, hope you get to a pain management doctor soon and get some relief. That is one terrific kid you are raising. We are supposed to remain in the 60's all week. A little cool but not bad. The girls are really enjoying swimming and they even commented on how good of shape they'll be in by the end of the season, lol. They've been a bit sore these last couple days but that's to be expected when you laze around all summer. Monday they get to go on a mini retreat with the swim team. It's just an overnight but it's out of town and gives the girls a chance to bond. We still haven't received Joey's schedule but that's not unusual. I think the high school was faster at getting those out. The girls got big envelopes from the music department. Another $300 odd dollars they want for each kid. I did find in the paperwork that there were scholarship funds available and the girls will need to get those forms from their teacher. High school is getting expensive and they haven't even started school yet! They really want to be a part of the band though and Aros has already ordered them new flutes. In middle school they were able to use school flutes, that's not the case in high school and this will be their 3rd year playing so it's time they got flutes of their own. Busy girls, between band and sports I don't know how we're going to keep up with them. Joey's middle school is new to us so we won't know much about their programs or sports until Joey brings home paperwork. School starts on the 8th so this next week is their last full week of summer vacation.

School is expensive. And in another year or so your girls are going to want to be driving. That is when it gets really pricey to have kids.
Ted is an easy student and not costly at all. I like that.
Not as hot today and I got some things done outside this morning. The weekend is supposed to be even nicer temperature-wise. I am really looking forward to it.

We've had a good dinner & Maxi is in his room fooling around with his laptop. I am listening to Meatloaf -- man, that fella has got him some pipes!

Cheryl ~ yes, it is terribly expensive to try to do all the good things the kids want to do. I do not envy you having that need doubled! But I'm cheered, at least, in thinking about how your girls want to do wholesome things with the money and not just blow it running around the mall fittering it away. Swimming and band are worthwhile.

Maxi did four years of percussion in band after four years of violin but now he's decided he'd rather spend time in Art rather than music. But I am so hoping he will continue w/ choir.

I've made some Red rose Tea and tonight I'm going to be careful with it so as not to spill it all inside the modem again!

When the teens drive , does your state make you pay huge sums for Car insurance? Ours does.

pricey is right . My son was not one for Fads so he was a very cheap one to raise. He likes his old jeans an whatever on top. Never wanted to wear what everyone else did. Still like that.
Drives a used car always. So does his wife. Not loud folks at all. Guess I raised him right.(An hubby too)

Yes, our car insurance will be outrageous when the girls start driving. Aros is already considering making them wait until they're 18. If they do get to learn earlier then they will have to have jobs to pay their own insurance, that deal has already been established as a possibility.

Aros is taking the girls out of band. We got packets yesterday spelling all the obligations of being in the marching/concert band which is what all freshman and sophomores do for band. They have to be at all the school games, plus fundraising at the college stadium for all those games, plus camp, plus after school practices and events, plus concerts. Not to mention that they have their swim practices and meets to worry about and they don't want to give up cheerleading either. They have to eat and do homework in there somewhere too. We realized that they would be spreading themselves awfully thin, especially for it being their first year of high school, and since band was the costliest and the most time consuming it's the one being cut. They aren't happy about it but I think they'll be thankful that they will have more time for the other things they want to be doing.

In other news, I ran 10 miles today!!!

10 miles is awesome! You will be doing full marathons soon. We will all be able to say, "I knew her when....."
Yes, it costs about a thousand extra a year just to have Jonni on my insurance. And will until she is 23 or something.

I don't think I'll be doing full marathons anytime in the near future. However, half marathons is a different story. I'm already planning to run one of those in November and having run 10 miles today, 13.1 doesn't seem so out of reach anymore. I do have to start working on hills though since my first half marathon has quite a few.

It is 54 here this morning and looks like it will be a pretty day.

Maxi is going with Dom's family to the movies. Dom's mom is driving them to this theater which is also a pizza place. You can sit at your table and watch the movie. I know they were trying to do something for the end of summer but she sorta popped the plan to me and I hadn't saved up for such an outing. Fortunately, Maxi had enough in his stash to cover it! So, he will be off with them this afternoon. I had to chuckle, though, because Dom's mom promised the boys that she & Dom's little sister would sit at a different table! They are seeing the spoof on vampire movies.

Yes, I understand why Aros is pulling the girls from band. It would be different if that was ALL they wanted to do. But how you describe it, it sure seems that it is a huge, very demanding program. I think you guys are making a smart decision.

Got a lot to accomplish before we go to oldest DD's Boy Friend's Birthday party. He was 30 yesterday.

57*F here right now--is supposed to get up to 86 today, but the humidity is not so bad, thank goodness.

I made chicken & dumplings. It was yummy.

Yum, apple sauce and chocolate chip cookies sound delicious! I'm going to have a couple of waffles and some scrambled eggs. I just got home not too long ago from dropping Ashley off at her jamboree, Amanda had her own ride there. Now I'm just waiting for the pan to heat up and I'm going to eat some breakfast before I have to go pick both girls up. I might leave a little and see if I can get some pics and video of them.

Got there too late to take pics. Oh well. The girls were able to talk their dad into letting them stay in band. They decided that they would ask their grandparents to help pay and they would use their own money as well. They also said that they wouldn't do anymore sports this year. They're still going to do swimming but after that's over then that's it for the year so that they'll have more time for band. Aros told me, "they took away all my reasons for saying no, so how can I say no?" Haha, smart kids. Turns out that band was more important to them and if they had known how busy it was they never would have signed up for a sport at all. They are really liking swimming though and they may continue that over the next few years. Aros is working on a family calender so that we can keep straight what everyone is doing and when. It's better for teens to be busy than to have too much free time right? I'm glad they were able to work it out together and come to an agreement that makes everyone happy.

Today I finally made myself go outside and get that darn weeding done. I've been putting it off for far too long and the weather was perfect today so I had no real good excuse not to do it. I was greeted by rat while I was out there (ew) and my neighbors even gave us a trap. Rats get into their house so they had extra traps. I tried putting together the trap myself and Aros made me stop because he thought I was going to end up with a broken finger. He set it up for me, I just had to place near where I saw the rat. So far nothing but hopefully he knew he was in danger and fled the area. I'm happy I got that done though, now I don't have to worry about it for a while.

That does sound like a plan, Cheryl. I wondered where they stood on the band thing when you said Aros decided.

We both were under the impression that they were more excited about sports. They've never really voiced how important band was to them so we simply did not know. It's a good lesson in communication though.

Maxi enjoyed going to the movies to see the spoof on vampire films. So, the boys had a nice end of summer outing.

Tomorrow we are shopping. We are buying Maxi cross-trainers; a brand called Axics, I think. I have a 20% off coupon. YAY!

Cheryl I'm glad things worked out so equitably about swimming & band for the girls.

Good night all. I am not sure what I am still doing up. I put in a lot of hours working outside today and I am achy. I want to do it all over again tomorrow while the cool weather holds.

Another rough night, so I got up way early.

When Maxi got up, I made pancakes on the electric griddle.

We also packed up all the egg cartons Maxi saves throughout the year and donates to the first grade at the local school for planting seeds & craft projects. He filled an entire garbage bag full with the cartons opened & neatly stacked. He's been doing this since second grade when he told me "Egg cartons are VERY important to first graders, Mommy!"

People always wonder why we have egg cartons stacked up on top of the ice box! They'll be delivered this week... I'm sure there is enough for all the first grade classrooms.

He has nearly finished that massive homework assingment, having completed 19 of the 27 pages of documentation, chapter by chapter, for both books. Phew!

Wow Merme... congrats to you and Maxi getting all the summer work finished... thats a wonderful accomplishment... and going to movies is a good end of summer treat...
I have a box of old magazines and odds and ends of craft stuff to take to the preschool too.. you reminded me to take it over this week if we can..
We have some sorting and donating to do too- Carrie and Jon cleaned out their crawl space and we now have about 400 VHS tapes to go thru - decide what to keep and rest is going to library... I also brought up all our picures from the basement- going to scan and put them all on cds - make a set for each kid and one for me too... we have a whole lot of pictures... some dating back to my childhood and a few of my Mom's and Dads too... will be my winter project.. more time now that kids are in school all day... I only have them for a couple hours now in the afternoons...
Carrie and Jon are out lookimg at houses today.. sure hope they find on and a deal goes thru for them.. the rental house is not big enough for the 6 of them... they are looking in our neighborhood to keep the boys in same school and within walking distance hopefully... keeping my fingers crossed .
Well gotta go start sorting out pics and getting them in rubbermaid containers to stack up in my office... doing laundry too... got two of the boys here- they found a tape of Space Jam and are watching it... LOL... new to them I guess.

I have been going through the house and sorting and donating and tossing stuff for over a year. And feeling pretty bad about some of the things I have been keeping. Then Jonni piped up a month or so ago and said she can't wait to be able to go through all of my stuff when I'm gone! I don't feel so guilty any more....
I have been working outside in the cool. It is about 11:30 and only 63* out there. Such lovely weather.

I have seen too many instances where family, overwhelmed by the sheer amount of belongings, have simply tossed out the good w/ the bad. Many truly valuable things lost that way! So, I decided quite a while ago to take the time to sort out and organize the truly good stuff and not let it get mixed in with whoknowswhatall.

Our ride for today got pushed back, so instead of an early get 'er done, she will be here by 5:30. That makes for a long day for me & shopping at not my best time. But I'm glad for the opportunity.

I've been trying to "purge" stuff every 6 months or so,, IF I haven't used it in 6 months I won't use it 6 months from now so OUT it goes, IF I've used it only Once in the last 6 months Out it goes still.
I really want to go thru attic stuff and get rid of stuff, I imagine I could do that in just a few hours. Dwight has nothing but Pure Junk filled in boxes up there,, Useless plain Junk he has had for years,, Some day,,,,, I'll get rid of it all

The attic is my headache. I hate to throw something out that could benefit me later. Goodwill gets mine.

Okay I am done for now.. pics are sorted- mine to keep, my sis's and neices, and some for my step- brothers.. only met them once but it is old family pics and will contac them and see if they want them .. I had a couple old suitcases they are in them now-also found a typewritten family history my Aunt did- of my dad's side of family kind of intresting.. ...
I found a box of Joe's old baseball caps too... almost 50 of them- made him go thru them and decide on keep or donate or throw.. he did so it is down to a doz and our cowboy hats and his Indiana Jones hat... think he got it at Disney yrs ago...LOL! I kept out 4 for the boys as they are child size ones... washing them - rest will go to Good will or if to bad trash...
I agree with not leaving a lot of cleaning out for our kids.. I had to do my stepdads shop when he died and it was not easy- he was a packrat..took 3 weeks and a lot of effort.
Good news on kid house hunt, they found a 4bedroom,4bath house- just down the street from us and across from the school.. newly painted- new carpet.. nice yard, even has a room to use as an office space..has a formal dining room and family room with a gas fire-place, it's priced less then their limit too.. it doesn't need a lot except curtains- but thats easy to do... does have a sprinker system too.. no ac but it is ducted so they can add one fairly easily... not getting to excited but realator says seller wants to sell badly so hoping it works out-
Well off to make some taters and chicken for dinner...

I am not a packrat or hoarder. But I also hate to toss things that might be usable. I am working on trying to find homes for most of those.
Ted is all bathed and sweet smelling all ready for a new Monday at school. I am about ready for a shower and bed myself but guess I have to wait until dark. I put in some more hours working today and feel pretty good about what I've accomplished with the cool weather.
