A Gardeners Forum Forums General Discussion Plant pests and problems potted citrus tree dying--is it too late?

Dear All:

My mother has a kaffir lime tree that is about 5 feet high, kept indoors in partially-direct sun year-round, in a clay pot (about 12” diameter and 11” high, but the base has a smaller diameter). It has always had leaves and fruit but a few months ago it lost all of its leaves. Many of the branches have died. The first branch that died began to die at the tip, at a location where pet parakeets sometimes sat and pecked at it a tiny bit (is it a coincidence?). Later, other branches began to die (beginning with their tips), and the death spread down to their branch bases.

As of now, many of the branches have died and we want very much to save it. Might anyone please have advice? To note, it is in zone 6 and it is now summer. Also, every few months it is fertilized with water from a pet snail tank (yes, this does sound odd).
