well stuck but safe, right??
I hope that you get enough snow to help you. It is 1 foot of snow = 1 inch of water, right??

I guess we will be starting spring soon here---finally.
I know we usually begin Lent in coats & finihs it without them.---

What you really dont know ,it can knock out our heating furnaces also .
We bought a generator when it happens.

Also we get the same issues in the summer in a rain storm. Knock out the lights and noises from the wind..Live on the mt like I do , you hear it all.
Wind wistles thru the trees............

We have had small tornadoes go thru an missed us by about 1.4 of a mile.

Life isnt easy any where. Mudslides in calif
Tornades in Iowa..........Heat killing folks..
Cheer up.
spring is coming.

that is so right, Dodge. but as yo say it is always something.
My DH just said he thought spring was on it way finally but then we would have the tornados to worry about.

With the latest earthquake in Chili I worry about the New Madrid Fault as it is close enough to cause damamge here if it shoule act up.

Good morning. I am still waiting on news from that Chilean shaker. It had just happened as I was going to bed last night and no real news. We are raining here but my house seems quite settled into its hillside. So all is well.

My friend in Hawaii has been trying to evacuate all morning - they've been under a tsunami warning since 3:30 a.m. She was on line at the gas station for over an hour, and is pretty scared.

Dodge - the earthquake was in Chili, though at first this same friend also thought Japan.

Friday, February 26, 2010

Print ShareThisTOKYO — A powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.9 rattled Japan's southern islands early Saturday, injuring two and initially prompting fears of a tsunami.

There were no reports of serious damage from the quake, believed to be the strongest in a century to hit Japan's southern Okinawa Island. Japan's Kyodo news agency said two people were hurt, but there were no reports of any deaths.

The quake occurred off the coast of the island of Okinawa at a depth of 6.2 miles at 5:31 a.m. Saturday, the Meteorological Agency said.

The only damage reported hours after the quake was ruptured water pipes in two locations, Okinawa police official Noritomi Kikuzato said.

The Meteorological Agency had initially predicted a tsunami up to 6 feet near the Okinawan coast and warned nearby residents to stay away from the coastline. The agency lifted the warning within two hours after observing only a small swelling of the tide.

"I was fast asleep when the quake hit, and I jumped out of bed. It felt like the shaking lasted forever," Ryota Ueno, a town official in the Nishihara district of Okinawa, told public broadcaster NHK.

Masaaki Nakasone, an official in Nanjo town, said his house shook violently but all furniture and other objects stayed intact.

"First there was a vertical shaking, then the house swayed sideways," Nakasone said.

Okinawa is about 1,000 miles southwest of Tokyo.

The quake registered a 5 on the Japanese scale, which measures intensity in specific locations and goes up to 7. Kyodo said that made it the strongest to hit the island since 1909.

Japan is one of the world's most earthquake-prone countries. In 1995, a magnitude-7.2 quake in the western port city of Kobe killed 6,400 people.

It does make you want to get all of your loved ones together, Carol. The other thing it makes me want to do is stockpile. Stock up on everything. From edibles to toilet paper. I have the same feelings when I hear of tornadoes and hurricanes and other disasters that leave people stranded for any lengths of time. I have totes full of medical supplies and things. I want to gather everything.

OH Tamara--so sorry you are sick---I hope it does not turn into something nasty.

I am glad that you got your snow, though. I have to agree with everyone--you need to rest---that will help you recover the best.

Maxi, his friend Dom, and my girl emptied our storage unit today and swept it nice and tidy. I just got fed up paying so much to store stuff we rarely get to use because it IS stored! The rules at this place were pretty stiff & unless you sweep it out, they charge you $75 to sweep it for you!

So now I have nine large bins of toys in my living room. Maxi has promised to help me sort them out. Some he wants to give to his little brothers. Most will be donated. And I'm sure some will go to the trash. There are also some which are "family toys" and have been passed through generations of kids. They will be set aside and then moved along.
