I hope ya'll can help- our impatiens have only been in the ground for 2 days- but something is eating every leaf. Slug bait was put out when they were planted. Also- my new periwinkles- the tops are falling over dead-like. Thanks!!!!!

do you usually plant impatients in this particular area? Wonder if the soil has bugs in it. Have you seen any slugs? Put out a tin pan full of beer and see if they drown.
Do you have both these plants in the shade? They both usually do well in the shade.

Slug bait may not always work, but if there are slugs, Sheri's beer trap will absolutely attract slugs and prove they're there. I've noticed that impatiens are often attacked by pill bugs, rolly-polies. Sometimes they'll grow in spite of the damage and do fine. Pill bugs seem to be attracted to areas mulched with certain things. One fairly no-fail treatment for slugs and pillbugs is Diatomaceous Earth, it's not hard to find, especially at a farm and garden type store. Trim off all dead parts on the periwinkles to reduce stress and use a liquid fertilizer like Miracle Grow or Fish Emulsion to boost growth and overall health, then spread the D.E. when the soil dries.

when you say "attract" do you mean to kill them or make them come when they might have stayed away?
I didn't even know pill bugs were bad for plants.

I didn't even know pill bugs were bad for plants. If they're in the area, they can't resist beer. You may not get them al, but you'll knowif they're there. Pill bugs tend to eat foliage that's on or near the ground, I've had them take enough little bites out of tomatoes to make them rot. They don't seem to climb much, the damage is usually low on the plant.

Don't know where you are, but when you say "something" is "eating" the first thoughts that come to my mind are bigger than bugs! ... Deer? Rabbits? May not be, but it is possible.
