I can't remember when it started showing signs of new growth last year, but so far it isn't doing anything. This will be year three that I have had it.. and I have never had any blooms on it. If it doesn't make it, I doubt very seriously that I will replace it. I did have awesome luck with a water hyacinth. Very pretty purple flower.. it kind of looked like an iris. I need to get some more of that.. and also some barley straw.. the water is turning murky.. algae. ICK!!

How are you ponds doing this spring? What are you doing to control your algae?

WOW Jennifer - I'm glad your fish made it through to their third year - that is great!

My water lily started growing about 2 months ago, but it hasn't gotten any bigger - just a couple of small leaves that are still red. I think I have to repot them this year into a nice pot, but when I did that last year the roots didn't grow, so I took them out and put them in a lingerie bag. The roots are growing nicely but the leaves are not.

Have you used barley straw before? I am looking into getting some to help the algae in my pond too - I found some nice barley straw planters online - you put soil and a plant in the center and it floats while doing the work of the barley straw. It's kinda expensive though, and no one locally sells it.
